Bounce On was a mobile platformer game released for iOS in 2009 and later for Android. Our goal was to be among the first platform games on mobile, utilizing the device's accelerometer for innovative tilt controls. Players moved a red ball left or right and tapped to jump. These simple mechanics, combined with expanding content, made Bounce On a hit on the App Store, achieving over 10 million downloads. The success allowed us to expand Team Phobic and pursue our passion for creating a video game company.
Bounce On was also the start of Team Phobic’s custom game engine, written in C++ by our two lead engineers. This engine would be used for most of our games, until we switched to Unity when we developed Glare. Each game we created we continued to expand its functionality to bring in many new iOS, and eventually Android, features.
My contributions included managing business operations and marketing strategies, designing levels, developing server-side components, integrating analytics and ads, and programming UI and gameplay elements.
Bounce On has left an impression on many players that remember playing it, and there is still an active community of fans that have created a wiki to remember it’s impact https://bounce-on.fandom.com/wiki/Bounce_On_Wiki.
